Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: Romantic Classics

Smetana – The Bartered Bride Overture

Rachmaninov – Piano Concerto No.2

Tchaikovsky – Symphony No.5

Conductor – Brian Wright

Piano – Winner of the Hastings Piano Competition 2016

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to be returning to the De La Warr Pavilion for the highlight of the Bexhill Music Festival, with an evening of Romantic Classics.

Join the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of outstanding classical music from your favourite Romanic Composers. Led by the internationally acclaimed and Sussex based conductor Brian Wright and joined by the winner of the 2016 Hastings Piano Competition, the Orchestra will perform some well-loved pieces in this exciting summer concert.

Having topped Classic FM’s Ultimate Hall of Fame to be named the most popular classical work from the past 15 years, the centrepiece of the evening’s programme is without a doubt one of the most popular works ever written for the piano: Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2.

Bringing a distinctly Romantic feel to the evening will be Smetana’s exhilarating Overture to his first and most enduring comic opera The Bartered Bride and Tchaikovsky’s turbulent Symphony No.5 which remains one of the composers most admired large-scale creations.
