Otto Dix served in the German army throughout the Great War. When it ended he began making paintings and prints that presented a critical truth of both the War and the excess and decadence of the Weimar Republic that followed. Dix’s art, shocking and mesmerizing in equal measure, presents us with an insight into a horrifying yet ultimately fascinating chapter inEurope’s turbulent history.
