Marlena Shaw

Legendary soul and jazz singer Marlena Shaw makes a rare appearance at the De La Warr Pavilion with an all-star line-up that includes saxophonist Nathan Haines.

She was a regular on the New York club circuit and recorded her first single, 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' in 1966. Marlena worked with Count Basie and became the first female vocalist to sign to the seminal Blue Note label, for whom she recorded five albums.

Her style draws from jazz, but embraces Sixties and Seventies soul, pop and classic R&B.
