1pm - Gordie Mackeeman & His Rhythm Boys

Hailing from Prince Edward Island, the award-winning Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys serve up old-time roots music with an energy level that practically yanks you out of your seat by the collar.

The Rhythm Boys were given the Galaxie Supernova Award at the 2012 Ottawa Folk Festival for outstanding live performance. Tom Power, host of Deep Roots on CBC, recently called the Rhythm Boys his "Best Discovery Band" at the 2012 East Coast Music Awards.

If ever someone was deserving of the nickname “Crazy Legs”, it is Gordie MacKeeman. His thrilling dance style mixed with great bluegrass vocals, Peter Cann’s blistering guitar solos, and the lively multi-instrumental talents of Thomas Webb and Mark Geddes, and Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys are an unforgettable live experience.

Within months of forming the Rhythm Boys and releasing their self-titled debut CD in 2011, the band had received two Music PEI awards for Roots/Traditional Group of the Year and Instrumental Recording of the Year, and were nominated for Roots/Traditional Group Recording at the 2011 ECMAs.

The Rhythm Boys were voted the 2011 Music PEI Showcase Artist of the Year, chosen by music industry visiting delegates at Showcase PEI. Since then, they've secured two international tours in 2012 - one to New England in May and one to the UK in July.

“These lads from PEI have taken their great musical skill and love for the repertoire and added engaging, sometimes jaw-dropping, stagecraft and showmanship. Man for man there may not be a better roots band playing in Canada today. Booking them was a no-brainer.” – Matthew Large, Montreal's Folk Festival on the Canal.

2.30pm - Nick Pynn

A maverick electro-acoustic ‘player tunewriter’ who performs original compositions on violin, mandocello, steel-string guitar, lap dulcimer, theremin, 5-string banjo and wine glasses, whilst live-looping and bass-pedalling with his feet.

Nick Pynn has also performed as a multi-instrumentalist with many musicians and comedians over the years, including Stewart Lee, Arthur Brown, Boothby Graffoe, B*Witched, Steve Harley, Mike Heron (Incredible String Band), Beverley Martyn, Otis Lee Crenshaw (Rich Hall), Nick also plays with Stomp’s ‘Lost and Found Orchestra’. Having won Edinburgh’s Spirit of the Fringe and Brighton’s Star of the Festival awards and co-winning the Three Weeks Editor’s Award with Jane Bom-Bane, this year Nick co-won the ‘Best Music Event’ category Brighton Latest award with Kate Daisy Grant for their show in the Brighton Fringe.

“…one of England’s best instrumentalists and composers.” - fRoots
