Against the background of Britain's social, economic and cultural evolution from fifties' austerity to sixties' prosperity, this course will look at the ideas and innovations of artists such as Henry Moore, Anthony Caro, David Hockney and Patrick Heron.

The course offers an historical and cultural context to three important exhibitions of British art at the De La Warr Pavilion - Kenneth and Mary Martin (winter 2008). Grayson Perry's selection from the Arts Council  Collection (spring 2008) and Ben Nicholson (autumn 2008).
