BBC Radio 4 - The Listening Project On Tour

more information

The BBC Listening Project comes to Sussex

The Listening Project captures conversations all over the country and each one makes history. It has the power to make the ordinary, simply extraordinary.

They are conversations which matter to those who share them, as well as to those who hear them. Subjects include love, loss, fears, hopes and dreams.

All of the conversations become part of the oral history collections at the British Library, some are broadcast nationally on BBC Radio 4 and others are aired locally on BBC Sussex.

The project began in 2012 and so far more than 950 conversations have been recorded. BBC Sussex has been involved from the very beginning and has produced and broadcast a series of compelling and engaging conversations.

The Listening Project booth will arrive at Bexhill on Sea on Friday 8th July when it will be stationed at the Modernist De La Warr Pavilion for seven days, with live programmes broadcast during this time.

Presenter of The Listening Project, Fi Glover said, “Amidst our busy lives, we get so entangled with the daily routines that we forget to sit and actually listen to the ones who mean the most”.

The aim of the visit to Bexhill is to record a series of conversations which look at many different aspects of life here today. It all centres on a 30-40 minute conversation between two people who have a close bond – good friends, family members, partners or colleagues.

Fi added, “Put simply, we’re after a picture of life in 2016 - a genuine conversation between two people - an expression of views, opinions and natural questions between two people who know each other well and we ask them to talk about the things that matter to them”.

The Listening Project booth is a mobile recording studio and will be open every day. Each recording takes up to an hour and people are advised to book a slot by emailing conversation@bbc.co.uk
